Carlos Thorne was born in the Almia Region in Boyleland. He grew up there, his origins being East-Asian and Latin. Growing up on the island, Carlos was always larger than his peers and smarter. The village elder chose him as his successor, but Carlos had larger ambitions. He was a teenagerβroughly 15 when the PokΓ©mon Ranger known as Kellyn had saved the island from Team Dim Sun. Carlos decided he would be a PokΓ©mon Ranger from that day onward. With the permission of the village elder, Carlos signed up for Ranger School and excelled right away. He had the athleticism, the drive, and intelligence necessary to graduate in a yearβs time. He was a prodigy just like his idols. He looked up to the Top Rangers the mostβthe ones that saved Almia. So after years of being an excellent Ranger, the prestigious offer of being a Top Ranger came to him, and he started training directly under Sven and Kellyn, his very own heroes. He was 27 when he became a Top Ranger, and once he reached his 28th birthday he just kept excelling, constantly, and a very special offer came to him due to his size and extensive history of completing high risk missions. Interpol had created a joint task force with the Ranger Union, and a squad known as Helljumpers was formed with Carlos being the captain. Here, he undertook some of the most brutal training he had ever received. He had to become a soldier, essentially. He had to get used to seeing horrors beyond human comprehension; the job was save as many lives as possible, as many PokΓ©mon as possible. Training made it clear though, you will /never/ save them all. He is a vet now, and still does his job. The Helljumpers were a last resortβwhen all other efforts failed, you called them. That was the difference between the Rangers and the Top Rangersβthe danger, and the insanity that youβre exposed to.

He wasnβt always a blunt and abrasive person. Itβs simply a result of his line of workβthe world of PokΓ©mon isnβt all squeaky clean like people make it out to be. There are still humans, and humans are very evil. They destroyβthey kill, steal, rape, abuse, kidnap, trafficβ¦having supernaturally powered creatures? That only makes it worse. Itβs not like he enjoys being mean, but seeing things like that change people, doesnβt take a genius to understand that. Carlos is best described as a no-nonsense guy and workaholic. Heβs obsessive with results, and ensuring the best possible outcome is reached. He hates cheery peopleβmostly as a reflection of himself. He finds them ignorant to what the world really is, and partly wishes to protect that innocence in reality. He is very stoic, almost like a soulless husk sometimes. He solemnly cares about anything, and doesnβt care what people think of him neither. Emotions are uselessβthey get people killed and hurt after all. What he does have a soft spot for, again, is innocence. Kids will always be rescued first in a mission. PokΓ©mon next, and then adults. Heβs not evil, he just values life differently than other people do. Make no mistakeβCarlos has a sensitive side and sense of humor that was burned away after witnessing so many crimes against humanity and PokΓ©mon. Alcohol is the only way to bring that out, however. It is not something he talks about with just anyone. Maybe one day heβll get better, but who needs therapy when you have cigarettes and beer?
